Taxi Cab

Taxi Cab at SFO Airport

One of the biggest worries when you travel by air is ensuring there is a reliable and not too expensive taxi cab that you can get when you reach your destination airport. Getting a taxi cab from the taxi line at the airport is an option – but an expensive one. The taxi cabs at the SFO Airport charge one and a half times the meter fare. But a little planning ahead can save you money, while ensuring that you get a cab on time, without having to wait too long.

Taxi Cab Companies

A good idea is to search for local taxi cab companies in the area and book before you fly in. You can even make a reservation made before you get on your flight. And if you are flying in from an international destination, and want to save the costs on international calls, there are taxi cab companies that offer online reservation options. Easy, convenient, and saves you money, since when you book with a non-SFO Airport cab, you only get charged on the meter fare.taxi cab, taxi cab

So how does this work. When you have made a reservation in advance, remember to give your flight details, as well as let them know if you will have any check-in baggage. This way, the taxi cab company can track your flight to make sure they have a cab reach you, even in case of early arrivals and delays. Plus this way, you don’t have to pay any waiting charges for the cab.

Most of the local taxi cab companies will have a taxi waiting right outside the airport. I believe the Millbrae gas station, which is closest to the airport, is the place most cabs wait for their passengers who have made a reservation. The reason is that the SFO Airport authorities do not allow cabs to wait inside the airport – not unless of course they pay high license fees to the airport authorities and take a wild guess where they get these fees recovered – by charging you one and half times the meter fare, of course.

Getting a taxi cab when you fly into the San Francisco (SFO) airport

But getting back to the topic of how your experience would be if you make a reservation with a local Cab service in advance. So when you land, and switch on your phone, call the company number to inform that you have arrived and the estimated time you would take to collect your baggage. The taxi driver standing-by for you in the nearby Millbrae gas station, starts driving towards the airport. In most cases, the Taxi Cab companies will give your phone number to the driver so that they can coordinate with you directly.

So once you have collected your baggage, inform the taxi company dispatch number or the driver (who would have called you by now) to let them know at which gate you will be standing. The taxi cab arrives to the point where you are standing to pick you up.

Ur Cab Meet & Greet Option

In case you are travelling international and do not have a local mobile phone number, you can opt for the “Meet & Greet” option. In the meet & greet option, the taxi driver will park their cab in the parking lot and will meet you at the baggage claim with a sign. Once you collect your baggage, the cabbie will escort you to the car or bring it around to where you are standing and pick you up.

So there, just a little planning can save you a lot of money on taxi cab. Happy flying into the San Francisco Airport!!
